In 1973, United States President Richard M. Nixon and Luis Echeverría, President of Mexico, came together and discussed the need for an independent entity to examine cross-border policy-making processes.  As a result of these conversations, the Chamber was formed with David Rockefeller appointed president of the advisory board.

The organization has since served as the leading binational business organization building mutual profitable trade and investment relationships between the United States and Mexico.

Today, the chamber is led by Al Zapanta, CEO & President. The Mid-America Chapter, one of 18 bi-national chapters, operates under the leadership of Ralph Biedermann, Executive Director, and an Advisory Board.
